February 2010 Newsletter

January has come and gone so quickly! We have been busy getting used to the new system and updating the store’s look. Please stop in if you haven’t seen our new samples yet. We also have a lot of new papers and stamps from the new Hero Arts catalog. More items are expected in soon, so check the blog or stop in to see what’s new.

February Craft Night
Our Craft Nights are becoming very popular! We are happy to be getting so much positive feedback on this event and happy to see new faces each time. The next Craft Night will be held on Friday, February 5th from 5:00-6:30pm. Jenny will be demonstrating how to use the Zutter Bind-It-All machine. This machine helps to make your binding projects professional looking! Come and see how easy it is to use and get some project ideas. There is no charge to attend this event.

We will again host a Card Drawing at Craft Night and hope you will participate! Participation is voluntary, but everyone who has participated seemed to be very happy with the exchange! Since Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, we thought it would be fun for everyone who plans on participating to submit a Valentine’s Day card. Please bring your card with you to Craft Night instead of dropping it off early. We would hate to lose your card, so please bring it with you that night.

If you have any questions about Craft Night or the Card Drawing, please contact the store for more details.

Blogaversary!
Can you believe that this February will make one year since we’ve started our blog? This year sure went by fast! To celebrate, we will be offering up some blog candy (giveaway) so check the blog this month to see when it is posted and how you can win.

Reward System:
Just a friendly reminder that we will be discontinuing our old punch card rewards system, since we have installed a new computer system that is able to track your purchases. Please redeem filled or partially filled cards from the old system by Saturday, February 27th. Members with partially filled cards will receive a pro-rated discount based on the number of punches that are accumulated on the card. Under the new system, you will receive reward points for qualifying purchases. If you have questions about the new system, please contact the store.

Spring Cleaning Sale:
Can you believe that spring is just around the corner? That means its time for our semi-annual Spring Cleaning Sale Event! Time to start looking at all your craft items and get rid of the ones that you don’t need or want. The sale will be held sometime in March. The official date will be announced soon, so check the blog for any updates on the drop off dates and other instructions.

Woo Hoo! It’s been awhile since we’ve offered any classes at the store, so we are very excited to tell you about 3 new classes coming up this month!

Valentine’s Card Punch Class:

Did you make your Valentine’s Day cards yet? If not, here’s a great class to learn how to make two different Valentine’s Day cards using a variety of punches. The new Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page punches are quickly becoming a customer favorite! Don will show you how to make two Valentine’s Day cards featuring a lot of different punches.

You will learn 2 blending techniques in this class and will leave with two cards. Due to the personal attention needed, class size is limited to 4 students. Due to limited size, we will offer additional classes in the coming months.

No class markers will be provided in this class and we do not recommend borrowing from other students. Once you pay for your class, you will be provided with a list of colors to bring with you to class. You're A Great Friend

Hello All!
If you haven't been in the store in awhile, you need to come and visit us to see all the new paper that has arrived! Here Donna made a card using some of the new Lucy Bird paper by Imaginisce. Isn't it cute? If you look closely, you can see Lucy Bird herself (hint, she's pink!). Donna used the new Martha Stewart Butterfly punch as the focal point of the card. She adhered the butterfly in the middle only so that the wings could still flutter on the card... See?

Come and visit us soon! Remember to bring your IS Member card to cash them in now through the end of February. Even partially filled cards will give you a pro-rated discount!

Supplies:

Four Dolls Thank You

Ok- its actually just one of the four dolls, but the Hero Arts set is called Four Dolls... Debi used one of the four dolls and made her hold a fan (also in the set). Instead of using patterned paper, she used one of the new Hero Arts clings stamps that is large enough to use as a background! These stamps are awesome because you can then customize your background for your needs. In this case, Debi went with the color purple, so she was able to use purple ink to match her project!

Here's a close up of the cute doll...

Hello Everyone!
Have you tried the new Hero Arts cling stamps yet? These stamps are awesome! You mount them on the acrylic blocks so you can see where you are stamping and get great images because its still using that red rubber we love so much!
Here, Debi made a card using the Silhouette Bells cling stamp. Since its just a silhouette, this card was very fast and easy to make. After she stamped the image, it was cut out and then mounted on cardstock! Even beginners will love using this stamp!

Can you tell we are loving this Big and Small Flowers clear set by Hero Arts? Debi made this card using a flower from this set. She used the paper piecing technique again where you stamp on the pattered paper and cut out the image.
She only inked up part of the hello stamp from the Truly Appreciated set. The card was finished off with some of the Kaisercrafts bling.

Got Milk?

This little cutie is from the Greeting Farm Respect stamp set, which includes a boy scout image too. When I think of Girl Scouts, I automatically think of Girl Scout cookies! Which one is your favorite? I have to go with the Thin Mint. They are still my favorite after all these years.
As a tribute to the Girl Scout Cookie, I made this card. The cookies were all made using circle and scallop circle punches. The chocolate chips were made using a heart punch. I punched the hearts out and then cut them to look like chips. When do they start selling those yummy cookies again?

Best Wishes

This bride and groom by Dandelion Designs is really cute! Since it was a wedding stamp, had to keep the card more simple and elegant (attempted to anyway). I went with traditional black and white for the happy couple and accented her dress using white Smooch, Stardust Stickles for her veil and a pearl accent for her headpiece. Since I didn't want to use any printed paper, decided to go with a Sizzix embossing folder for some texture.
For a splash of color, I used a light pink for the roses and then again for the ribbon. Hope you like it!

Sending You Lots of Hugs

Here's another card using the new Hero Arts stamps from two different sets. Don't they work well together? Debi used the paper piecing technique, where you stamp your image on printed paper and then cut it out.

Love the color combo so much, it inspired me to make a card using the same colors... of course I had to add my own touch and use Hello Kitty. The flowers used on this card is actually a Sizzix deco strip. I love using it along the edge of a card. Used the new MS double loop punch for more accent along the edge of the card.

Here's a close up of Hello Kitty.

January 2010 Newsletter

Happy New Year! We can't believe another year has come and gone so quickly! We've finished up our inventory and set up the new system and are now ready for the new year! Thank you so much for all your patience and understanding while we were closed. Your business means a lot to us and we are excited to see everyone come and visit us again, so stop by if you haven't already done so.

New Rewards System
Since we have a new system in place, we have decided to upgrade our membership rewards system too. Our new system allows us to input and track the amounts you spend towards your rewards, so we will be eliminating the punch card system that is currently in place. The changeover will be effective 3/1/10.
Unlike the old system that would only earn you punches for every $10 you spend, the new system will track every dollar and credit it towards your rewards. Even small purchases will count towards your reward. There will be no cards to carry or remember to bring with you (and less trees killed!).
For those of you who have filled or partially filled cards, please redeem them by February 28, 2010. Partially filled cards will be at a pro-rated discount based on how many punches you have.
Please contact the store if you have any questions about this new system.

January Craft Night:
Our next Craft Night will be held this Friday, 1/15/10 from 5:00pm to ~6:30pm (may run longer). There is no charge to attend this event. We are planning on doing a Make 'n Take project.
We will be hosting a Card Drawing again. Here's some information on the Card Drawing:
Please bring any type of handmade card (made by you).
All cards entered will be numbered.
All participants will draw a number and whatever number they pick is the card they go home with!
Participation is optional.
It was so fun going home with another card last time, so we encourage everyone who attends to participate. Participation is not necessary, but the more the merrier!

WE'RE FINALLY READY TO OPEN! ARE YOU READY???

Hi everyone! It has been a VERY long two weeks for all of us! But, we have survived the counting of our inventory, upgrading our new system, and ordering of tons of products! We've endured many “ trying moments ” countless hours of counting, planning, cleaning and working hard to bring the shop up to tip top shape. We have all put in long grueling hours here at the shop. Yes there were Tears. Tears of Frustration, Tears of accomplishment, and you know the laugh so hard you cry kind tears…. Easy to do with Kelli and Tracy around…We laughed a lot…laughed till we cried and cried till we laughed.

We are glad to begin a new chapter. We are looking forward to having fun now that the hard work is done.

Hopefully no one will ask us if we are rested as we worked our hinnies off. To quote Michele: “If we knew what we were in for, we may have thought twice, but there was no time.”

With our shop put together again, we’re excited to say that WE WILL BE OPEN TOMORROW, SATURDAY JANUARY 9, 2010 from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Please bear with us as we adjust to our new system. We would like to thank you for your patience while we were closed. Hope to see you soon.

Much love,

The Girls at Island Scrapbooking
