New Hello Kitty Decorative Strips

We just got in the new Hello Kitty Sizzix Decorative Strips. These cuties will not fail to delight! The bug set has Hello Kitty dressed up as a ladybug and comes with the cutest bee I've ever seen. The other set featured here is Hello Kitty with a bear balloon and Hello Kitty holding a heart. These are a great value since you can get a lot of images on one die. Hurry! They are going fast!

Re-coloring Tutorial

Have you ever wanted to change the color of something so that it matched your project better? Here's a technique that Tracy came up with that is very useful in these situations.

Supplies used:
Versacolor white ink
Ohana sentiment- Laser cut from Island Scrapbooking
Studio Basics duo sided eye applicators
Decorating Chalks
Here's what we started with... The Ohana sentiment was cut out of black paper. We wanted the title to be green.
The first step was to ink the Ohana with white ink.

After applying the ink, Michele used the applicators to apply the different colored chalks. At first we wanted to make it green, but then realized we could make it look like a rainbow!

Just a tip- if you need to apply more ink (so that the chalk sticks to it), use another applicator to apply the ink... you don't want to apply the stamp pad directly to the image if it already has chalk on it. If you do, your white ink pad won't be white anymore.

New Spellbinders!

The new Spellbinder dies are in... here's a look at some of the new stuff. As you can see on the top, there are a lot new dies (looks a lot like labels). The great thing about Spellbinder Nestabilities is that you get several sizes of the same shape. It makes it that much easier to mount the shapes on each other or get the perfect fit for your project.
New Mari and Me Designs:
Attention all stampers! Come in and see the new Mari and Me stamp releases. The boy and girl eating saimin is sooo cute! So are the surfer boy and surfer girl stamps, a must have for your local stamp collections!

More Hero Arts Samples

It's amazing what you can do with a stamp set. Stamps are so versatile that the possibilities are endless! Check out this sample set of cards made with a Hero Arts set called I Care Frame Messages. The stamps were stamped on Imaginisce printed cardstock, so no coloring was required! The cards were embellished with Hero Arts flowers, gemstones and ribbon for a fun touch. Card sets make great gifts for anyone! Using sets takes the guesswork out of which stamps will coordinate with each other- so less time thinking and more time crafting! Here's some close ups of the cards and the stamp set.

Here's another set created with Hero Arts and coordinated items. This set is actually a card and 2 post it note holders. The stamps and flowers used in these items are all by Hero Arts. All three are on display at the store so stop by if you want a closer look.

Spring Cleaning Sale Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that if you plan on selling your used items at our Spring Cleaning Sale, to drop off your items this week to the store. Refer to the original post for instructions. Even if you don't plan on selling anything, you can take advantage of some good deals on Saturday at the store. Call the store if you have any questions regarding the sale. See you then!

Spellbinder Samples

This week's coupon is for 25% off of all Spellbinders! in case you don't know what Spellbinders are, they are wafer thin dies that can be used with your Sizzix Big Shot machine. They are known for their Nestabilities line where you get several sizes of the same shape die (i.e. ovals, circles, scalloped circles, hearts, etc.). This is especially useful when you want to mount one shape onto a slightly larger sized same shape. The dies are only outlines of the shape, so you can easily see your image through the die and can easily place it where you want it cut. Once you start using these dies, you will get hooked and find all kinds of uses for them.

The Honu card featured here was cut with a scalloped circle Spellbinders die. The card was cut keeping the fold in place, so that it would be one piece instead of two. As you can see, several of the scallop circle dies were used in different sizes. The Honu is a Dreamweavers Stencil that was colored using Versacolor Inks and given dimension using the stencil paste.

The second card featured here is by a regular customer, Don Barnes. He created this card by using the Spellbinders heart dies and shaped them into a clover for St. Patrick's Day. How clever! The vines were cut using a Sizzix die. Happy (early) St. Patrick's Day!

Red Hat Society Event

These two cards were created by Tracy and Donna. Island Scrapbooking will have a booth at the 2009 March Madness event this Saturday at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel- Moku Ola Room. This event is sponsored by the Ula La Chapter of the Red Hat Society in Hilo. As tribute to this group, Tracy and Donna used a Dreamweavers stencil to emboss the hat onto gold cardstock. The leaves and hibiscus were punched and the Aloha and Mahalo sentiments are lazer cuts that can be found only at the store or online (click here). Come and visit our booth at the fair from 11am-2pm!

Blog How To's...

So, I've been getting a lot of questions on how to comment and how to follow this blog.. Here's some general information in case you are new to all of this:

Posting a Comment:

Posting a comment allows you to give the author (and the internet world) some feedback on a particular post. If you would like to post a comment there are a couple of ways to go about doing this. First of all, in order to post a comment on this blog (not all blogs), you need to have an account either on Google or Aim, etc. You will be asked to log into that account before your post will go through. You can start by clicking on the title of the post or at the end of the post, there will be a "__ comments" link. It will have a number showing the number of comments for that post. When you click on either of those links, it will take you to a new page. You'll need to scroll down to the end of the post and you will see a "Post a Comment" Box where you can type in your comment. You will then need to select your account from the pull down box labeled Comment as. (Initially it will say "Select a profile". Then you can either preview your comment or post the comment. I believe it may also ask you to verify some letters/numbers before it allows you to post. After you post it, it will be available for all the world to see!

Following the Blog:

If you would like to follow this blog (or any blog), look for the Followers section where you would find the blog menus. (Normally on one of the sides). If you are already signed in, you can just click on the "Follow" button or sign into your account. If your account doen't have a photo, you'll be given a gray box with no picture but your login name will appear if you move your mouse across the box. My friend Les told me how to insert a photo small enough to fit (mine kept giving me an error message that my picture was too large). She instructed me to open the photo in photoshop and change the ppi to 72 under the resolution box, then upload your photo to your login account. Sorry, I don't know how to do this in other programs. Thanks Les for the tip!

And Now For Some Blog Candy...

For those of you who are new to blogging, Blog Candy is a term used for giveaways. Being that we are celebrating the store's new blog, Michele has decided to give out some blog candy! What we really want to know is who is reading this blog? Is anyone out there? Not many posts, so we aren't sure, but we do get some feedback that people are looking. Post a comment on this post by 6pm on Sunday, March 15th and we will pull a random name from those that comment to win this blog candy giveaway! On your post tell us what you like about the blog (if anything) and what you want to see more of... more samples (of what?), tutorials, etc. The winner will be posted on the blog and will need to stop by the store to pick up their prize.

Here's what the store's giving away...

For all of you who can't wait to see the new Hello Kitty Sizzlits, here's your pre-view so you can decide which dies you want to get. (You'll have to get in line behind me!) Per Michele, they will probably go very quickly so you might not want to wait too long!

New Sizzix Dies Are Here!

Here's a sample of the new Hello Kitty Embosslits. Its not only embosses the paper into a cute Hello Kitty, but it also cuts the image for you. Thank You Card

Here's a card that was created using Dreamweaver stencils, mini star brads from Creative Impressions, and gold mirrored cardstock. The Thank You image was stenciled on with dye ink and then given dimension by using clear embossing paste and glitter. (Note: the clear embossing paste looks white until it dries). If you are not sure how to use these products, just ask Michele. She will be glad to explain how this technique is done.

Guess What? Dreamweaver stencils and mirrored cardstock is on coupon during the week of 3/9-3/14! You can get any Dreamweaver stencil with this coupon for 25% off (limit 2). The gold and silver mirrored paper (8 1/2x 11") is only $1.29 (limit 10) with the coupon!

Hibiscus Scrapbook Page by Tracy

Since this is the blog for Island Scrapbooking, shouldn't we post a scrapbook layout? Here's a beautiful one designed by Tracy. The hibiscus paper used is by Island Paperie and the solid cardstock is by Bazzil. The hibiscus flowers were accented with a glitter pen by Copic. These pens are amazing! It gives you all the sparkle without the weight and it takes much less time to dry than glitter glue. Tracy used the Uniball white pen to draw in dotted lines on the solid cardstock to continue the theme from the hibiscus paper. She cut out the leftover hibiscus flowers and used them as accents to the layout.
The large Hibiscus Die is by Sizzix and the Ohana title is by Island Scrapbooking. You can order your Ohana title (or other titles) from the store website (click here) or stop by the store. The titles come in black but Tracy re-colored the title to match the layout. We'll post a tutorial on this technique a little later.

Here's a close up of each page:

And here's a close up of the Ohana title. The black title was what it originally looked like, but Tracy colored it green to match the layout. Check back later to see how this was done.
