December Craft Night

We sure had fun at the last Craft Night of 2009/Christmas Party! We started the night out with a pot luck dinner, then on to the make 'n takes. The store also remained open for participants to shop if they wanted to take advantage of Craft Night specials.

Look what Gail made! She told us that she spent more time on the gingerbread men than on her card for the card drawing. We could all tell how hard she worked- aren't they cute?

I did the Christmas tree pie box make 'n take, but featured another take on the pie box by making it into Santa! Participants filled their trees with candy canes and used chocolates for the stump. Who knew that die was so versatile?

Here's Gwen and I with the make 'n takes.

The other make 'n takes were done by Tracy. She actually offered 2 projects! The one on the left is a gift card holder made from the new Sizzix die. The project on the right is a Christmas tag. I didn't have enough time to write in the "To and From", so my project is incomplete!

Here's Michele and Gail with Tracy doing the make 'n takes.

Here's Debi, Michele, and Margaret just hanging out.

And Donna and Michele S. having fun!

At the end of the night Michele did a drawing and gave away a Christmas goodie bag which Gwen won (sorry, no photo). Congratulations Gwen! Now you can't say you don't win anything!

We also had a Card Drawing, where anyone who wanted to, could participate by bringing in a handmade card. The cards were numbered and we all picked a number to see who got to take home which card. It was so nice to leave with a new card and a new idea!

Overall, Craft Night was a time for all of us to have fun, do a little crafting, and socialize with one another. Thank you to all who attended! Please check the blog for more info on our Januaray Craft Night, which is scheduled for January 15th (note that we had to move the date due to store closure at the beginning of January).

Season's Aloha

Seasons Greetings everyone! Just wanted to share this card made by Michele! She recently taught a Faux Cloisonne and Glitter class and this card was one of the projects she made. Sorry, the photo doesn't do this card justice, you'll just have to come and see it in real life! Here's a close up of the card...
Isn't it great? She even colored the words from yellow to red! Love the look of this card mounted on the new Reminisce paper and decorated with the Kaisercraft Bling.

December Craft Night 12/4/09

Hi Everyone! Just a friendly reminder that our next Craft Night will be on Friday, December 4, 2009 from 5:00pm to ~ 6:30pm. Since the holidays are near, we thought this would be a fun time to do some Make 'n Takes, eat, shop, eat, talk story, eat... etc... you get the idea.

Since space is limited, we are asking that those interested in attending please sign up at the store ahead of time to save your space. We are also asking participants to bring a pot luck dish (you can sign up for this when you sign up).

Tracy will have a Christmas tag Make 'n Take and I will have a Christmas goodie bag. There is no charge to attend this event, so we are hoping you will take some time out of your busy schedules to celebrate with us.

We are also continuing with the card drawing this month, but are asking that those who want to participate in this month's swap to bring a holiday themed card (it is Christmas time after all!). Participation in the card drawing is optional, but the more of us who bring in cards, the more fun it is! Here's a refresher on how it works:

  • Bring in a handmade holiday themed card (made by you!) to craft night.
  • All cards will be numbered.
  • All participants will pick a number and whatever number you pick is the card you get!

We had fun last month with the swap and hope more people will participate this time. The more the merrier! Hope to see you there!

Matchy Matchy

Everyone loves coordinating projects- when you coordinate your project using the same paper, the recipient knows that you made it especially for them. Featured in this matchy matchy project is the new Sizzix bag. Isn't it cute? It holds a lot too... perfect for that special little gift or to hold little goodies. I used the Happy Birthday custom Laser Cuts by Island Scrapbooking. These make it so easy to put a project together. I also added some crystal bling to the flowers to give them a little kick. I think this box took a whole 10 minutes to make- very easy.
Here's the matching card...I used the same DP and decided to accent it with paper flowers by Prima. The store now carries HUGE containers of paper flowers. It comes in assorted colors/prints or all white. The white ones are very pretty and much bigger. On this project, the colored flowers were used. You are bound to find the perfect bloom for any project... and then some!

Flowers- Prima
Crystals- Hero Arts

Our First Craft Night!

Happy Aloha Friday!

Today was the first of our Aloha Friday Craft Nights at Island Scrapbooking. We thought it would be fun for our customers to be able to come in after our normal store hours to socialize, learn something new, and shop! We were happy to see that despite Downtown Hilo's Black and White Night, many of our customers still made it.

We decided to do an informational session on Copic Markers since so many of our customers have so many questions on these awesome pens. I provided handouts with a lot of information and Michele demo'd how to refill your pens. Tracy and Kelli provided additional feedback on their experiences in using Copics. Hopefully we answered everyone's questions and that they found the information helpful. Extra copies of the handouts are available at the store, so just ask Michele or Tracy if you want a copy.

Michele also donated a Copics prize which included a pen holder, multiliners, Ciaos and Spica markers. Gail was the lucky winner for the night... Congratulations Gail! In addition, there was an in-store special on Copic markers for customers who attended the session.

In addition to the informational session, Island Scrapbooking also hosted a Card Drawing. We had 10 participants that submitted a card. After the cards were numbered, participants picked numbers and whatever number they picked, they got to keep the card with the same number. Just another nice way to share ideas with fellow crafters.

Feedback on our first Craft Night was very positive. We are planning to hold Craft Nights every first Friday of the month after work. If you have a suggestion on what types of topics you want to learn more about, let us know here by posting or come in the store and make a suggestion. This is just our little way of giving back to our customers. Thank you to all who made our first Craft Night a success! If you missed it, we hope you can join us for next month's Craft Night! Stay tuned for more information as the date gets nearer. Ta ta for now!

November 2009 Newsletter

Hi Everyone! Can it really be November already? Its amazing how quickly time is flying by. Now that the holidays are among us, its time to start all those holiday projects if you haven't done so already. If you haven't, check out our class schedule this month. We have some classes planned that will definitely inspire you to get started on those Christmas presents!

Before we get into the classes for this month, we have a bit of announcements to make:

Craft Nights at Island Scrapbooking
Beginning this Friday, 11/6/09, we will be hosting Craft Nights at Island Scrapbooking. Every first Friday of the month one of the Design Team members will host Craft Night which will include either a demo, product info or a make 'n take. We thought it would be fun for everyone to get together in an informal setting to learn more about how to use different products or do a fun make 'n take. Our first Craft Night will be hosted by Jenny and the topic will be Copics 101. This discussion will provide a very basic introduction to Copic Markers. We thought this would be a good topic since so many of our customers ask so many questions about this awesome tool. Please note that this will not be a blending class. If there is enough interest, we may do another Copics session at a later date.
Crafts Nights will be held after work on the first Friday of every month starting at 5:00pm till ~ 6:30pm. Its a great chance to do some after hours shopping too! Right now, anyone can stop by to attend, but if space becomes an issue, we may require you to sign up in advance for future Craft Nights.

In addition to information provided, we will also be hosting a Card Drawing. Similar to a "one card swap", participants can bring in a handmade card, which will be numbered. After all entries are in, all participants will pull numbers and whatever number you pull will be the card you go home with! We thought this would be fun way to exchange cards without all the headache of creating a ton of cards! Please note- you DO NOT have to participate in the Card Drawing in order to attend the Craft Night, we just thought this would be a fun new thing to add for our customers. The more people that participate, the more fun it will be, so hope you join in the fun!
